High School Pathways Counselor

Green School Bali is a progressive, dynamic PreK-12 school located in Bali’s lush jungle with a wall-less campus. We are a community of learners with a passion to make our world sustainable and our holistic, student-guided approach inspires and empowers us to be changemakers.

Our living curriculum educates for sustainability through community-integrated, entrepreneurial learning, in a natural environment. We strive to champion a new model of education that nurtures the whole child, giving them agency in their own lives and learning, so they can thrive with purpose in our ever-changing world.

Role Description

The High School is a vibrant, innovative and dynamic Learning Neighbourhood within the bigger Green School Bali community. With approximately 110 students across grades 9 to 12, our High School teaching team delivers learning that is impactful, skills and values driven and real.

We are looking for a passionate High School Pathways Counselor to support our students to take ownership of their learning journey and make choices that set them up for success. Working in collaboration with the dynamic High School team, the Pathways Counselor will play a central role in managing the processes involved in assisting students in ‘life after Green School’.

To be competitive for this role this special person understands that pathways can be varied and respects and supports all student choices - from applying to university, to starting a business, to interning or taking a gap year with purpose.

Position Criteria

  • Masterful at developing great relationships with students, as unique individuals.
  • Develops and delivers courses or workshops that help students unearth their interests and filter possibilities, as a step towards making decisions and taking action.
  • Appreciates that different students will be on different learning and professional trajectories, not necessarily based on ability, but rather based on what universities can and cannot offer, what going straight into (self-?) employment can and cannot offer, what gap years/internships/etc. can and cannot offer.
  • Advises with persuasion on opportunities that exist for our students to ‘stand out from the crowd’ to maximise pathway opportunities eg: community/environmental projects.
  • Engages with the High School parent body (particularly Grade 11 & 12 parents) to give information and advice on how best to support their child as they prepare to graduate.
  • Can connect high school students to meaningful local projects and professional guest speakers to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Is able to identify opportunities and lead on their implementation, as needed.
  • Takes the lead role in coordinating ‘Pathways Days’ that include workshops and speakers on university pathways, gap year, interning, starting a business or volunteering post graduation as part of our holistic approach.
  • Liaises with universities for university fairs, tours, visits, and workshops for students.
  • Assists students to fulfil university entrance requirements and provides reference letters.
  • With a deep understanding of our Diploma Program, develops connections and advocates for our students with universities and other entities.
  • General management of the Maia Learning platform (and other ed-tech platforms).
  • Generation of High School Diploma Transcripts.
  • Tracks and updates Alumni information.
  • Prior expatriate teaching or working experience preferred with evidence of cultural integration, competency, and language acquisition.
  • Is a positive, confident and professional communicator who can engage in courageous conversations when needed.
  • Has a growth mindset - can reflect critically upon professional experiences to enhance professional effectiveness, contribute to the enhancement of a learning community.

Furthermore:

  • Mission-Driven Pedagogy: The counselor will embody a commitment to fostering a learning environment aligned with the school’s mission for sustainability and holistic education.
  • Best Practices: The use of evidence-based practices will be crucial in enhancing student learning and engagement.
  • Personal Development & Wellbeing: The counselor will promote personal growth and well-being through initiatives like Capstone Projects, encouraging students to pursue their interests.

Other Requirements (by Indonesian Law)

  • Must hold at least a Bachelor degree (minimum).
  • Must be able to pass a HIV test (legally required).
  • At least 5 years teaching experience.
  • Must not have any previous criminal convictions (legally required).
  • Must not have any Child Protection concerns on file at previous schools or workplaces.
  • Must be able to provide an original copy of certifications, transcripts, diploma and/or degrees (legally required).

The Unique Green School Bali Opportunity

  • Be part of a mission-driven organisation and enjoy the freedom and independence to engage in new learning methods, projects and experiment with your ideas.
  • Be a member of an inspirational, intellectual and vibrant community of professionals.
  • Hone your educator skills through peer training, exposure to hugely inspirational visitors and community members, and a formal professional development programme focusing on education for sustainability.
  • Receive an employment package that allows for a comfortable and exciting lifestyle in beautiful Bali.
  • Have the opportunity to share with the world your impact as an educator via our various platforms that allow for personal attribution and credit.
